Why install a home charger?

Charging your vehicle at home is the simplest and most affordable way to go electric day to day. No more planning stops at public chargers, plug in at night, leave in the morning with a full battery.

With bornotto, every installation is carried out by Marc Girard, master electrician, ensuring a safe and code-compliant setup across the South Shore.

You save money every time you charge

Charging at home costs a lot less than using a public station. Taking advantage of Hydro-Quebec rates, especially during off-peak hours, adds up to real savings over time. You will notice the difference by the end of the year.

Your garage becomes your gas station

That is probably the biggest perk. You get home, you plug in, and that is it. No detours, no waiting, no stress. Your car is ready when you are.

Financial assistance for your home charger

Good news : if you own an electric vehicle, you may be eligible for a 600 $ rebate on the purchase and installation of a home charger, through the Roulez vert program by Hydro-Quebec.

Basic eligibility

You need to own an electric vehicle at the time of your application, use a charger that qualifies for the program, and your purchase and installation costs must exceed 600 $ before taxes. The work also needs to be done by a licensed electrician, which is exactly what bornotto provides.

How to apply

The application is submitted directly through the Roulez vert program, after the installation is done. We can walk you through the steps if you have questions. For full details and to check if your charger qualifies, visit the Hydro-Quebec website.

Which charger is right for your home?

Not all chargers are created equal, and the right choice depends on your vehicle, your habits and your current electrical setup. Here is what you need to know before deciding.

Level 1 vs Level 2 : what is the difference?

A level 1 charger plugs into a standard 120V outlet. It is slow, adding roughly 5 to 8 km of range per hour. For daily use, that is rarely enough. A level 2 charger runs on 240V and gives you 30 to 50 km of range per hour. That is what bornotto installs, and what the vast majority of EV owners use at home.

Amperage : 32A, 40A or 50A?

The higher the amperage, the faster the charge. A 32-amp charger works great for most vehicles and most people. If you drive a lot or have a vehicle with a large battery, a 40 or 50-amp charger might be worth it. Marc Girard assesses your electrical panel and recommends the right option for your situation, without upselling you on something you do not need.

Compatibility with your vehicle

Level 2 chargers are compatible with every electric vehicle sold in Canada, whether you drive a Tesla, a Ford F-150 Lightning, a Chevrolet Bolt, a Hyundai IONIQ or anything else. The J1772 connector is the universal standard, and Tesla includes an adapter with their vehicles.

No matter what you drive, bornotto has a solution for you.

Home charger installation : what to expect

We get it, having work done at home raises questions. Is my electrical panel sufficient? Do I need a permit? How long does it take? Here is a clear picture of what the process looks like with bornotto.

Is my electrical panel up to the task?

That is the question we get asked the most. In most homes, a 200-amp panel is sufficient to support the addition of a level 2 charger. If your panel is older or underpowered, an upgrade might be needed. Marc Girard assesses your setup during his visit and explains exactly what is required, no surprises.

Permits and compliance

In Quebec, installing an EV charger requires an electrical permit and must be done by an RBQ-licensed electrician. bornotto handles all the compliance steps for you. You do not have to worry about any of it.

How long does the installation take?

In most cases, the installation is completed in half a day. Depending on your home configuration and the work required, it can take up to a full day. We give you a precise time window before we start, and we make sure to leave the place clean when we are done.

Service area : South Shore

bornotto serves the South Shore, including Longueuil, Brossard, Saint-Lambert, Boucherville, Varennes and surrounding areas. Not sure if your area is covered? Reach out and we will confirm right away.
